How to Reach Millennials

How to Reach Millennials

Do you know that Millennials make up about 50% of the workforce and by 2030, the US Bureau of Labor expects 75% of the workforce will be Millennials?  Why do they get so much attention? Don’t they just need to figure out how to play the game like the rest of us?

Many have held this view, but like the Baby Boomers, the Millennial demographic is a larger demographic so it begins to have more influence and voice as more of the population share that perspective and experience. The Pew Research Center said in 2018 that the Millennials are projected to overtake the boomer population in America as the largest generation!   https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/03/01/millennials-overtake-baby-boomers/

Given this, if you are a leader, you need to understand how to work well with Millennials. It isn’t about losing your truth and ways, but it is about making space in the world for others and how they work. Also, to gain traction and be effective it is worth your time and effort to understand how they think and work. Here is an article by the Forbes Coaches Council on 14 ineffective ways to market to Millennials, but on the flip, you will find ways to communicate with Millennials today.

I suggest that you write job posts to share your culture and the opportunity from the millennial point of view (communicate how they can create, develop, evolve, and grow). Posts that are laundry lists listing deliverables and performance expectations are a turnoff and show a culture that will suffocate a millennial. Showcase your purpose and help them understand how they will be empowered and welcomed.
